Day 445; April 17, 2016; Kilgore, TX; Robertsdale, AL

DG:  Left around 9:00 this morning. Break wasn’t over until 8:30, then 15 minute pretrip and breakfast.

Got my truck washed Friday when we pulled into the yard in Lancaster and then this morning, this happens. Why?  I think the birds watch for recently washed vehicles just to do this.  Gotta hand it to him. Looks like a moving shot at an angle from up high.

Stopping for lunch in Opelouses, LA. We just pulled into an independent truck stop cause for one I knew there would be no fast food restaurant and secondly I knew there would be some Cajun food and I was right. Check out this menu.

I am having the shrimp etouffee and fish because I have not had any in quite a while. Do hope they get it right.

And they did. Shrimp and fish both were fresh and the etouffee had just the right amount of heat.

Annie – I’m having the shrimp and fries.   Just couldn’t bring myself to eat another burger today especially if there is another option.  Lol.

Big ant hill:

 We see such interesting things.

Henderson swamp outside Baton Rouge Louisiana.

DG:  If you are ever painful through Robertsdale, AL on I-10 in either direction you owe it to yourself to stop at the Oasis Travel Center. Here’s their story. Hope you can read it. Then I will post some pictures.

This is one of the more interesting truck stops we have visited.

This is part of the restaurant made to look like a train dining car.

Front of the building/restaurant made to look like two train cars derailed and crashed into the building. Hence the name The Derailed Diner.

Then there’s the 60’s element.

Pirate ships for displaying merchandise and a checkout counter.

And toys and antique looking stuff but looking closer it’s new stuff made to look old.

And then there was some really old stuff.

The diner was really neat. Our table was the tailgate of a pickup truck and the wall in front was painted to make it look like you were actually eating in the back of a truck with a TV in the back window.

The bar was in front of a school bus.

Can’t really see it in this picture but there are kids on the bus. And then a TV in the middle.

Now check out some of the seating. Really neat.

Yes, that’s a saddle, two seats from an airliner, the back seat from a motorcycle, a bench seat out of a vehicle and the gentleman at the bar is sitting on a tractor seat.

Salt and pepper shakers.

Dining car.

All the tables have glass tops over displays of toys and memorabilia.

The place was just too cool. Groovy man.

Well, that’s it for now. Tomorrow we head for Orlando. Good night and God bless.
