5:17 am. I need quiet. I wanted to see what it would be like to actually take some time off, to not think of responsibilities. To feel life without that driving need to meet a deadline or having to be somewhere at a certain time every day. A month, maybe three. I didn’t get quite that far. I haven’t the means to afford that life as of yet.
Has it really been a month since my last post? Doesn’t seem that long. I have a lot of catching up to do. Let me see, where were we? Oh yea, sick in bed. Now I remember. I don’t know why she posted that picture. Oh well.
So should I do a day by day? Don’t think so. Memory’s not that good. So I will sum up.
Mostly our days have consisted of household chores, lots of TV watching, some reading, lots of games on the iPhone and iPad, (what did we do before those techno advances? Oh yea, had conversations.) and going for drives in the evenings. Let’s see, I think there are some pictures around here somewhere.
On the 16th of this month we headed for Harrisburg, PA to participate in our grandson Alex’s first birthday. He was born on the 16th but the party was scheduled for the 17th due to travel time so everyone could be there. Greg, Melissa and the kids flew up. Annie, Precious and I drove. It’s about a 7 hour drive from here. Here are the pics.

Everything was shape oriented.
Party over we headed back towards Kentucky. What’s this? Along our route back we will be passing Gettysburg? Gotta stop for that. And we did. For two days.

Met an author who was doing a book signing at the entrance to the gift shop. Of course I had to buy a copy of his book. Sounded interesting. It’s about a man, a Kentuckian, who gave a speech, the day after Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address at a rally in town urging the completion of the war. I haven’t gotten that far yet, but what I have read has been very interesting and a part of history I was totally unaware of.
So after two days of driving and walking around the battlefield we head for home. Driving through Maryland Precious let us know she wanted out and just then I saw what appeared to be a little picnic area off to the left so I literally whipped in there, safely of course, but quite quickly as we were already in a curve and I just happened to see this place as she started barking. What a place it was. Right by a stream and at the head of a walking trail. The sign at the trail head said something about a rock 1 1/4 miles ahead and also that the park closed at sunset, which was rapidly approaching, so we knew we didn’t have enough time to walk the whole trail so we went a 100 yards or so and just became mesmerized by what we saw. If there was ever a place for fairies and gnomes to live, this was it. Rocks and fallen trees, moss, and quartz, big chunks of quartz. A truly magical sight.
Due to our late start we stopped in Morgantown, WV, a college town, home of WVU. Being a college town there were plenty of hotels. We did learn one other very important thing on our trip. Some time back during one of our hotel stays we signed up for Wyndham Rewards program which gives you points you can use for discounted room rates. We’ve been able to use them a couple of times now. This most recent stay however the night desk clerk told us we had earned a “free” night and although the bill we received on check in showed the room rate she told us the night audit would adjust this to zero. Imagine our surprise the next morning when, upon checking out, we got a bill for our night’s stay. When Annie told the daytime clerk about the free room promised by the night clerk she was informed that “free is not free”. What? Call the 800 number. We’ll talk to someone in the home office. “Hello, home office? Yea, we were told, what? Free is not free? Okay, bye”. Apparently it is a company wide interpretation.
