Meteors. That’s the word of the day. The Perseid meteor shower is happening now with the peak being this morning. Well, we went for a drive. We had scoped out a place yesterday we thought would be good and sure enough it did not disappoint. Standing directly below the Milky Way, which we haven’t seen for years due to being in places with too much light pollution, we counted nine within twenty minutes or so.
Reading up on it there was a lot more predicted and actually we didn’t stay out too late. We may get a later start tomorrow night and try some early morning observing. It goes on for several days. According to “The Web”, which is never wrong, this happens every August however every ten years we get this enlarged version, this year being the tenth year in the cycle. I don’t know about you but just seeing all those stars is very exciting to me.
Well it’s around three in the morning and I should be getting some sleep.
Good night and God bless.
